Preliminary training requirements
To be admitted to Codarts you should be in possession of a havo diploma, mbo bve-level 4 or a (foreign) certificate of equivalent value, in which the subject packet or the profile is of secondary importance. In special cases the above diploma demands can be set aside. The student-to-be then has the possibility to take a test at a careers advisory bureau, the AOB test, to check if there is sufficient general development to be able to follow the study. The fees for this test are charged to the student-to-be.

Pre-selection
Additionally, a specific entrance audition must be passed. Each area of study has its own admission procedure with accompanying selection criteria and supplementary requirements.

The Pop department operates pre-selection on the basis of sending in a link with audio and video material (website, youtube, MySpace), maximum three songs, preferably with a combo. Depending on this material, you will or will not be invited to come and take an audition. 
The content of the auditions is attuned to the demands which the study programme and the later career practice make on the student. The auditions are judged by a panel constituted from teachers of the Pop department.

Take note! The pop department does not accept CDs or DVDs. Nor mp3s by email.

Take note! Your portfolio can not be processed if the profile is protected.

Audition
You will be invited to participate in an audition if you are through the pre-selection. We will inform you by email of the date and time that the audition takes place. Generally the auditions are in the months May and June

In the audition your talent, knowledge, skills and learning potential for the programme you plan to follow are tested. The audition consists of a music theoretical and a practical part. In the practical part, your ear for music, feeling for rhythm, improvisational skills, affinity with music of the chosen main subject, talent, learning potential and motivation will be tested.

During the audition you should perform (with your own

band/accompanists/tape). Prepare a maximum of 3 pieces for the teachers to choose from. Indicate the one you absolutely want to play! The admission lasts for 30 minuten. On the same day you will be tested on your theoretical knowledge. This will be done aurally with the aid of an mp3 player. Click here to do a trial theory exam (pdf).
