Admission requirements Drums

General:

  •     Affinity with the instrument and repertoire.
  •     Sufficient development opportunities.
  •     Intrinsic motivation for further exploration of the instrument, ensemble playing and career opportunities.


Drums:

  •     Affinity with jazz and related styles.
  •     Good level of reading and technical skills. Candidate can read rhythms ‘a prima vista’ and is familiar with common  drum notation.
  •      Knowledge of classical studies (e.g. C. Wilcoxon, Mitchell Peters, Stick Control, Gary Chaffee) and ability to demonstrate level achieved. Pieces that can be prepared are, for example, Rolling in Rhythm, Rhythmania
    (C. Wilcoxon) or similar etudes.
  •     Playing in different styles with a combo. The candidate will be asked to prepare 3 pieces in varying tempi and with
    different feels, which will give an insight into the level achieved. Playing a maximum of one of your own compositions is allowed but not required.
  •     Alternate different rhythms with short solos and breaks in different tempi.
  •     Repertoire list with suggestions for pieces to be played.
