They will help you develop the skills you need to adapt to the demands of the constantly changing world of pop music.
Why study Pop Drums at Codarts?
The Pop Drums curriculum at Codarts uses a unique genre-neutral approach in teaching percussion techniques. This provides you with a broad and diverse background that prepares you for the versatile world of modern music. Rooted in classical percussion, jazz and pop, our curriculum offers technical courses combined with a healthy dose of creative freedom.
Our close ties with the Jazz and World Music departments in the same building offer an exciting learning environment that encourages and welcomes students to mix and match across different genres and styles. These opportunities provide aspiring drummers with invaluable experience and a large network of useful contacts.
Programme
The main subject of Pop Drums uses a comprehensive approach to teaching technical and musical development. We also guide you in the journey of finding your own distinctive artistic voice. Groove and sound play a key role in this.
Our educational content offers you a delicate balance between classical technique, musicality and improvisation in a training environment that prepares you for live performances, studio work and self-recording. We foster an inspiring and stimulating learning environment with state-of-the-art facilities and equipment, where you can cultivate and further develop your passion for drums.
Our curriculum also includes opportunities to gain hands-on experience, both inside and outside the school setting. You actively participate in live performances, studio projects and collaborations with other musicians to become a well-rounded musician, going beyond 'just' the technical skills or a specific style.
Hans Eijkenaar, main subject teacher Pop Drums: “Classical technique, a jazzy feel, and a pop and rock power discipline… no groove no glory!”
