Why study Latin Song at Codarts?
Latin song is so much more than a main subject; it's a musical journey with a solid foundation that gives you the building blocks to develop your individual style.
We are the only conservatoire in the Netherlands that offers a dedicated Latin Song programme. Study with our team of three passionate teachers and learn from their unique background and expertise.
Internationally renowned singer and educator specialised in transgressive vocal art, Connie de Jongh will guide you through the nuances of your voice development and assist you in finding your own vocal signature. She also helps you connect with different styles and performance settings. Connie shares her wealth of knowledge about voice techniques and musical-artistic applications with her Latin Song students.
Lilian Vieira, co-founder, frontwoman and lead singer of the Dutch-Brazilian band Zuco103, brings Brazil's vibrant musical traditions straight into the classroom. Born and raised in Brazil, Lilian has unique insight into the story of its music.
Yma América, a talented jazz and Latin jazz musician from Venezuela, is known for her soulful melodies and rhythmic compositions. Her background in Afro-Cuban song adds exceptional diversity of musical influences to this main subject.
Lilian and Yma are both former students of Connie. Their close bond creates a welcoming and safe environment where you can develop yourself. Together, this trio of teachers offers an in-depth and versatile approach to Latin song. You will not only grow as an artist and performer, but also as a person.

Masterclasses
To enrich your learning experience, we regularly organise master classes with accomplished singers. These sessions offer you a hands-on opportunity to learn from the best and serve as a source of inspiration and motivation. Former voice artists who have taught masterclasses include: Richard Bona, Thais Morell, Alain Perez and Alberto Caicedo.
‘As a Latin song teacher, I like to be inspired by a quote from one of our alumni, Irene Novoa: “No se canta con la voz, se canta con el deseo”, which means: we don't just sing with our voices; we sing with our desire.’
