Codarts academic year starts after an inspiring introduction week

The Kick-Off introduction week at Codarts, as always, focused on getting to know the university, the city, but most importantly, each other.

Codarts academic year starts after an inspiring introduction week

On Monday 26 August, over 200 students from six continents were warmly welcomed at Codarts' main location on Kruisplein in Rotterdam. President of the Executive Board David Lauwen addressed the enthusiastic students in the early afternoon. In his opening speech, he highlighted the importance of art students, noting their unique ability to touch people and connect them through their stories. He assured the students that Codarts is committed to supporting them throughout their journey. Following his inspiring words, violinist Maggie Burns took the stage, joined by Stephanie Hulsebosch, Head of Student Life. Stephanie and Maggie shared insights about the renowned and award-winning Student Life programme.

The rest of the week was dedicated to the cross-over project. Students from various disciplines – from circus and classical music to pop and dance in education – were given the challenge of creating a performance of up to 10 minutes within just two days. By Thursday afternoon, the circus location had been transformed into a small theatre, packed with an audience. The groups presented their work to one another, staff, and other students. Each group left the stage to loud applause. It was a fantastic start to the academic year!
