Toelatingseisen CaSA Fluit, klarinet en saxofoon

Candidates may audition on Flute, Clarinet, or Saxophone (Eb or Bb). The audition will assess technical proficiency, musicality, and stylistic understanding within Caribbean and South American music traditions. 

Performance Requirements 

Candidates must prepare and perform: 

  • One piece from the Omnibook – Charlie Parker (demonstrating technical fluency and jazz language). 

  • Three Etudes (selected from the below study books for the instrument, showcasing articulation, phrasing, and technical control).

  • Altamiro Carrilho – Chorinhos Didáticos para Flauta 
     

Clarinet:  

  • Cyrille Rose – 32 Études 

  • Hyacinthe Klosé – 25 Études de Mécanisme 

  • Paquito D’Rivera – Latin American Clarinet Method 
     

Saxophone  

  • Marcel Mule – 18 Exercises or Studies 

  • Paquito D’Rivera – Latin American Saxophone Method 

  • Sigurd Raschèr – Top-Tones for the Saxophone 
     

Additional Audition Components 

  • Sight-Reading – Candidates will be given a piece prima vista in the Latin/Brazilian or Latin jazz idiom, demonstrating rhythmic precision, articulation, and stylistic awareness. 

  • Rhythm & Groove Test – Candidates must demonstrate their ability to internalize and execute complex rhythms relevant to the styles studied. 

  • Play by Ear – Reproduce a musical fragment after hearing it. 

  • Improvisation – Develop melodic lines based on provided chords, showcasing fluency, creativity, and stylistic awareness. 

  • Scales & Diatonic Chords – Demonstrate fluency across the instrument’s full range, executing scales and diatonic chords in eighth notes at an up-tempo pace. 

  

When preparing the above we recommend you do this with a backing track or your own ensemble. Prepare 3 pieces and the committee will choose two for your performance.
