The Research Ethics Advisor (REA) will provide students and faculty members within the MAT with solicited and unsolicited advice on various aspects of Research Ethics. The REA will foster an ethical research environment and ensure compliance with ethical standards and institutional policies.
Master of Arts Therapies
Codarts’ Master of Arts Therapies (CMAT) holds two specializations at the master’s level, a Dance Movement Therapy and a Music Therapy education, and trains talented students to become dedicated and reflective dance movement or music therapy practitioners, ready to contribute to the diverse field of Mental Health (vaktherapie) and Wellbeing. CMAT is a part-time program that spans three years and is offered in English. The study load of the program is 120 EC.
The Ethics Committe
The Ethics Committee (EC) of Codarts Master of Arts Therapies (CMAT) is an advisory committee to the CMAT research committee with three members, preferably with a background as a Dance Movement Therapist, Music Therapist, Mental Health Specialist, or Researcher. The committee has an autonomous position within the organization of research-related working groups at the CMAT. The EC aims to contribute to, support, and ensure ethical conduct in research-related matters for all participants in CMAT (students, staff, and study management) following the Codarts code of conduct, the professional standards for arts therapists, and ethical guidelines for conducting arts- and or practice-based research within a clinical setting. Members of the committee are welcome to participate in all CMAT open-access activities.
The MAT Ethics Committee seeks one new member with a background in Dance Movement Therapy or Music Therapy and a particular affinity for research ethics. The preference is for a doctoral candidate with experience in research. Still, we are open to a person with a Master of Arts degree who has shown affinity for research ethics or the motivation and willingness to develop in this area of expertise.
Responsibilities
- Chair the EC Meetings: 3-4 times a year. In between meetings, short consults on current affairs.
- Provide solicited and unsolicited advice on aspects of Research Ethics to students and faculty of the MAT.
- Provide expert guidance on research ethics for specific research projects and proposals, including ethical considerations related to data collection, storage, and sharing.
- Advise and support students and research coaches by performing ethical checks on the research proposal ans serving as a liaison between these parties.
- Monitor and update research ethics policy within the CMAT and ensure compliance with institutional and broader ethical guidelines.
- Join research classes (once every two to three years) and discuss the practical application of research ethics concerning students’ research proposals and execution of conducting practice-based research and writing a thesis.

- Develop and disseminate resources and materials to support ethical research practices.
Qualifications and Requirements
- Advanced degree (master’s or higher) in a relevant field (e.g., Ethics, Philosophy, Law, Social Sciences, or a related discipline).
- Proven experience in research, preferably in an academic or research institution.
- Strong knowledge of ethical issues in research, including human subjects, data privacy, consent, and publication ethics.
- Excellent communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team.
Offered
At Codarts we follow the collective labor agreement HBO, but there is also an option to do this role as a self-employed person. It concerns a temporary contract and the expected time spent per academic year is 30 hours.
